Irenosen Okojie on Curandera
July 27 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Join us in conversation with award-winning author and literary curator Irenosen Okojie as she
unveils her captivating new novel, Curandera. Set against the backdrop of a mystical town in
17th-century Cape Verde, Curandera weaves a mesmerising tale of rebirth and redemption,
where the lines between past and present blur into mythic proportions. Mysterious arrivals,
strange phenomena, and life-altering events grip the mountainous town of Gethsemane, leaving
its inhabitants forever changed. Fast forward to present-day London, where a diverse quartet
is drawn together by their shared fascination with ritual and the extraordinary. Join us for a
journey of discovery as we explore themes of miracles, destiny, and the transcendence of the
mundane in Irenosen’s spellbinding narrative. Irenosen is Vice Chair of the Royal Society of
Literature, has served as a judge for the Women’s Prize for Fiction, and founded the Black to the
Future multidisciplinary Afrofuturist festival. She will be in conversation with author, activist and
Primadonna, Winnie M Li, whose latest novel Complicit was a New York Times Editors’ Choice
and shortlisted for the Royal Society of Literature’s Encore Prize.
