Meryl O’Rourke

Acclaimed stand-up comic & TV writer Meryl O’Rourke revels in her bitterness. She has delighted live comedy audiences and written some of the best gags on telly. “5 * * * * * As near perfect as you can find. Charming delivery keep the audience in no doubt they’ve just seen one of this year’s fringe highlights” – British Comedy Guide; “Ripe with comedy” – Observer.

A regular support for Frankie Boyle, she also wrote on all series of New World Order, on the BAFTA winning Farewell To The Monarchy & the RTS winning Tour Of Scotland. She now writes with Daliso Chaponda on the BBC Audio Award nominated Citizen Of Nowhere & for BBC Radio’s News Quiz. She has won the Artsdepot/Tsitsit Fringe residency, the Betty & Peter Sitcom prize and a Young Vic Neighbourhood writers’ place, to write her first play “Thrown By Giants”, about the WW2 refugee women detained on the Isle Of Man. An in-demand MC, she has residencies at many established comedy clubs. South Londoner born and raised, she is mum to an 18 year old poet (“where did I go wrong?”) and a 67 year old indignant colonel masquerading as a 12 year old gamer.
