Olumide Popoola and Musih Tedji Xaviere in conversation (BSL signed event)

July 28 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

BSL SIGNED EVENT

Travel with us on a journey of self-discovery, resilience and sexuality, exploring how love, despite all odds, can persevere and how sometimes we must fall apart to become truly whole. Nigerian-German writer Olumide Popoola’s Like Water Like Sea is her second full-length novel which opens at the ten-year anniversary of her sister’s death: Nia grapples with her grief, and balancing complicated relationships including her mother whose battle with bipolar disorder continues to cast a profound shadow over Nia.

Olumide is joined by Musih Tedji Xaviere, a Cameroonian fiction writer based in the UK whose debut novel, These Letters End in Tears (Jacaranda), won the 2021 Pontas and JJ Bola Emerging Writers Prize. The novel follows Fatima and Bessem’s life-changing romance which blossoms, despite an atmosphere of threat due to the criminalisation of same-sex relationships in their home country of Cameroon. All seems to be going well, until one day tragedy strikes, and Fatima disappears… Chaired by poet and Campaigns Manager at Jacaranda Books, Niki Igbaroola.
