We Are The One in Five: Queering up the Countryside

July 28 @ 11:15 am - 12:15 pm

Join us as we queer up the countryside and take a dive deep into the heart of Suffolk’s queer spirit with Charlie Brodie, the trailblazing Founder of Suffolk Queer Voices, to discuss their new book, Suffolk Pride: We are the One in Five! In celebration of the 45th anniversary of Gilbert Baker’s iconic eight-colored Pride flag, this groundbreaking book is not just a commemoration but a jubilant proclamation of queer identity in rural landscapes. Inspired by Baker’s symbolic

colors, current students and alumni of the University of Suffolk have spun a tapestry of prose, poetry, and non-fiction, each piece a vibrant reflection of the diverse hues of queer experience and the human desire to be heard, seen and celebrated. Charlie is joined by author and poet Ellen Freeman, novelist; university lecturer and former school teacher Ashley Hickson-Lovence; and Layla McCay, whose book Breaking the Rainbow Ceiling: How LGBTQ+ people can thrive and succeed at work has just been published.
