The Food Museum in Stowmarket is home to Primadonna and it’s the perfect place for us to create the world as it should be, for one weekend. Beautiful surroundings, an intimate atmosphere and a safe space in which to talk, share ideas and make new friends.
We have challenged ourselves to be the UK’s most welcoming and accessible festival offering a line-up that appeals to all ages and demographics, and welcoming of those with seen and unseen disabilities.
We are committed to improving our access provision for disabled, neuro-divergent and Deaf participants – as audience members, speakers and staff. We work with disabled, neuro-divergent and Deaf performers and interpreters to help us shape our programme and site plan each year, so that everything we schedule is accessible and inclusive. A BSL interpreting service will be provided by fully qualified interpreters throughout the festival and BSL interpreted sessions will be added to the website closer to the event.
Security and stewards are on hand across the festival site. They have been briefed to offer information, help and support. If you are unwell or require assistance, please approach a member of the Security and Stewarding Team who are clearly identifiable by their tabards/shirts.
The Primadonna festival is an outdoor event set in beautiful parkland. There is a paved path around the site, but please be aware that there can be areas with no solid pathways or hard ground. It is important to be aware that during inclement weather some parts of the site may be difficult to navigate around. Please dress appropriately, and for all weather conditions.
Smoke machines, strobe lights, lasers, fireworks and other effects may be in use at this event. Anyone affected by these should bear this in mind.

- We want everyone to have an amazing time and for the Primadonna Festival to be warm and welcoming.
- That means we do have to have rules to ensure everyone feels safe. In buying a ticket to the festival, you are agreeing to be bound by them.
- No illegal substances, drugs or nitrous oxide or “legal highs” are allowed on site. Anyone disorderly or behaving anti-socially will be ejected.
- We ask that you look after your children at all times – there is open water on site and other hazards.
- Be aware parts of the site are uneven – particularly the campsite. We recommend you bring an electric torch if camping.
- Well behaved dogs who don’t mind loud music/noise/small children, who can look after themselves, clear up their own mess and who are happy to be kept on leads at all times are permitted provided they have well-behaved owners.
- If you have any concerns about your safety, please speak to one of our site stewards straight away. If you’ve forgotten to bring something please ask in the production office, and if we have spare we’ll give or lend it to you. If you’ve brought too many of anything bring your spares to the office and we will share them around.
- We take the security and safety of our festival-goers very seriously. Our staff are there for your safety – please co-operate with them as they work to keep us all safe and sound.
- We will not tolerate any discrimination towards any individual or groups of individuals, irrespective of the background of the individual, be that gender, race, disability, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity. If you see or experience anyone undermining this – no matter the severity – please report it immediately to our onsite staff.
We believe that empowering others through writing, reading and creativity is one of the ways we can make a difference in the world. We also want to make a difference to how our world is cared for: and this drives our approach to sustainability and everything we do to reduce our environmental impacts.
The climate emergency is real and is happening right now. We are working to reduce the environmental impact of our festival to ensure we are being responsible global citizens, taking care of the communities where we operate, and doing our part to curb the most harmful impacts of global climate change.
At Primadonna, we prioritise waste reduction, followed by reuse and then recycling, energy recovery and disposal.
Consumables
We do not use single-use plastics. All onsite vendors use materials that are either reusable, renewable, certified compostable or if unavoidable made from at least 30% recycled content. This includes sampling containers, cutlery, plates, cups, bottles, serve-ware, sachets, stirrers, straws.
We provide good access to quality potable water, as well as seek to reduce water waste.
Offering quality and healthy food to our customers is a priority. We minimise the amount of food that goes to waste and make best use of composting facilities and redistribution schemes.
Our merchandise and publicity/marketing materials are printing on organic, recyclable/sustainable materials, and are ethically sourced.
Transport
We want to minimise our carbon footprint by helping people opt out of driving to the festival. Please see our Travel page for the most up-do-date information.
Primadonna is a family friendly festival. Our policy is not to have separate kids’ areas because, for some of us, weekends are a great opportunity to hang out with our children. Instead we make sure that there is always something happening that kids will enjoy.
However there are a few things to note before your family arrive:
We don’t allow anyone under 16 to be at the festival over the weekend without an adult of 18 or over.
Children under 10 years old need to be accompanied on site at all times.
All under 16s need to be accompanied by an over 18 through the entry and exit gates to the festival site.
It is a good idea to take a photo of your children on your mobile phone in the morning so that you have the most recent photo on you
The camping field is less than five minutes’ walk from the main stage area, so there will be some noise spill for those who are camping. However, late night events will be held away from this area to ensure everyone gets a good night’s sleep – if they want one!
While you’re at Primadonna, your kids will be free to explore the onsite farm and barn. For all budding Chris Packhams or Anita Ranis, there’s the chance to meet Zippo the Suffolk Punch Horse, the Suffolk Sheep, Large Black Pigs and Red Poll Cattle, as well as to spot how many varieties of fruit grow in the orchard.
The Food Museum in Stowmarket is home to Primadonna. The site is a short walk from Stowmarket train station, and there’s lots of parking available. Best of all, there’s a supermarket right outside the venue: grab yourself a bottle or two and head right in!
Here’s a few pointers on the best way to get to the venue.
BY LIFT SHARE
Did you know that 80% of the carbon emissions generated by festivals are due to travel? We want to make Primadonna as green as we can, so we’re partnering with Lift Share so you can offer and accept lifts with other ticketholders (or locals), saving on the number of cars making the journey.
To see if this option will work for you, join the Festival Liftshare community – part of the Liftshare network (not just liftshare.com). Scroll down to the bottom and join the main Festival Liftshare community, where you can offer or search for a lift to Primadonna.
Liftshare is free-to-use, you can arrange to share costs, and you can post your journey as either a passenger, driver or both.
Have a look and see if it will work for you.
BY BUS
Parking is very limited – if you are toying with another transport method, we would recommend this.
Ticket-holders have exclusive use of the carpark on Iliffe Way, right next to the venue (Iliffe Way Car Park, Stowmarket, IP14 1PN – location 747203. Use postcode IP14 1PW to Finborough Road, then turn in to Iliffe Way). It also has 10 electric vehicle charging points. Look out for signage when you arrive on Iliffe Way. It’s just a couple of minutes’ walk to the entrance of the Food Museum (the festival site).
This carpark runs a cashless payment system – visit MiPermit. There is a special offer set up for Primadonna ticket-holders: on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th, it will cost £2.50 to park for the day and on arrival you can pay for the full weekend. It is free on Sunday. Look out for details on arrival.
If you are a day visitor on Saturday 27th, you can also park (at your own risk) at Halo Service Solutions (Halo House, Gipping Way, Stowmarket IP14 1GJ) – our friends there have kindly let us use their private car park for the day. Please ensure that you park responsibly and that the house at the end of the car park has access at all times. This is free. It is a 5-minute walk to the festival site.
If you are a day visitor on Sunday 28th, you can also park at Milton Road Car Park (IP14 1EJ) – this is free. It is a 7- minute walk to the festival site.
A small car park is located in the grounds of the museum for visitors with access needs only. This car park can be accessed via the museum entrance. You MUST pre-book if you require a space (they will not be available on the day). Spaces are limited and they are not guaranteed – we advise booking as soon as you can. If you require a space, you must show your disabled badge at the entrance and keep it displayed in your car at all times.
BY TRAIN
The nearest train station is Stowmarket, which is a ten minute walk from the festival. There will be a regular shuttle bus running from the station to Iliffe Way (just across the car park to the Museum) from midday until 4pm on Friday.
For timetables and tickets see Greater Anglia: routes go from London (Liverpool Street) via Peterborough, Norwich, Cambridge and Ipswich.
For travel from further afield check out Trainline.
BY BUS
Local bus routes are operated by Suffolk On Board and Ipswich buses.
BY BIKE
There is a bike rack at the museum which will be available to festival guests. Bikes will be parked at the owners’ risk, but will be within the festival site’s perimeter.
BY FOOT
Walking onto site is the easiest way to get straight into the action. In the event you need to walk onto or offsite at night then please wear reflective clothing or something bright and highly visible.
To get here on foot: Use map directions to ASDA supermarket, IP14 1SL. The museum’s main entrance is opposite.
BY TAXI
Our official taxi partner is Avenue Taxis.
You must pre-book by telephone and arrange for a driver to collect you. It is unlawful for a private hire vehicle to take you unless you have booked them in advance.
Private hire vehicles also are identified from an external plate to the rear and an internal plate on the windscreen. The driver will also have a badge on his/her person.
Please ensure you ask the fare to be charged when you make the booking, if you are happy to accept that charge you have entered into a contract and it cannot be altered when you are collected.
If you are not using our partner taxi company, it is advisable to get quotes from different companies to ensure you are fairly charged.
FANCY A SPOT OF GLAMPING?
This is our top recommendation! Immerse yourself in the festival, make new friends around the campfire and don’t miss a minute of our amazing programme. Never camped before? Don’t worry there will be plenty of people around to help you set up and lend you the tent pegs you’ve forgotten. But we have plenty more options is your don’t fancy staying outdoors…
CAMP ONSITE
This is our top recommendation! Immerse yourself in the festival, make new friends around the campfire and don’t miss a minute of our amazing programme. Never camped before? Don’t worry there will be plenty of people around to help you set up and lend you the tent pegs you’ve forgotten.
The campsite opens at 12.00 on Friday and closes at 18.00 on Sunday. You won’t be able to drive on site to drop off your belongings but we’ll provide lots of helping hands to help you load in. The car park is just outside the main gate.
We charge a small fee for camping. This is to offset the cost of providing extra toilets, washing facilities and cleaning in order to keep you safe during the weekend of the festival.
There is plenty of space in the campsite and so you should be able to find a space which is comfortable for you.
Toilet facilities, showers and water points are available for all campers. Don’t forget we have the world’s best festival toilets and showers (see social media for affirmation) so you’ll stay fresh and fragrant all weekend.
CARAVANS & MOTORHOMES
We have a few spaces available for campervans which are smaller than 5.5m in length. These will be parked separately to the campsite (no vehicles are allowed to park on the campsite) without a hook-up. These require an additional ticket of £50 per weekend. If you have a caravan that’s bigger, or if we no longer have pitches available, we recommend Stonham Barns which is only a couple of miles away, and which has the added attraction of a Sunday morning boot sale!
You need a campervan, caravan or motorhome pass for each vehicle – each occupant, including the driver, must also have a Weekend Ticket. You must buy a campervan, caravan or motorpass for your vehicle when tickets go on sale.
GLAMPING
We have two wonderful glamping partners offering the very best in on-site accommodation so you don’t miss a minute of the action.

LOCAL HOTEL
There are two hotels in Stowmarket: the Cedars, and the Travelodge Stowmarket. Further afield (but not far: just over three miles away) in Ipswich there is another Travelodge hotel which is budget-friendly. There’s also Pentahotel, Ibis, Novotel and easyHotel in Ipswich.
If you’re looking for a bit of luxury for the weekend, we can recommend the Ufford Park hotel and spa.
OTHER OPTIONS
There are lots of lovely properties for rent on the Heart of Suffolk website, many just a short walk from the festival site.
To look for local B&Bs you can go onto the Visit Suffolk website. They have lots of accommodation but unfortunately their search doesn’t work by postcode so you should select Stowmarket.
If you go onto AirBnb you can do a search by postcode (IP14 1DE). If you use Booking.com key in Stowmarket as the location. We’ve heard really good things about Bays Farm which is pretty close, but they get booked up so book early!

NOT SURE ABOUT CAMPING?
There are certainly cons as well as pros to sleeping out for the weekend (privacy, walls, your own bed…) but we reckon that, overall, camping is definitely the best way to make the most out of Primadonna. You get a fully immersive festival experience: so you’re up with the larks (and the chickens) for some yoga to ease you into a full day of learning, sharing, creating and laughing, and you’re the last to bed with the sounds of the disco shed still ringing in your ears (take ear plugs if you’re planning on not being quite the last). There are (free) phone charging points so you don’t need to worry about going totally into the wild. There’s great food for breakfast (coffee is also served from 8.15), lunch and dinner, and anything in between, so you don’t even need to pack that gas stove and saucepan. And of course, we’ve got the world’s best festival toilets and showers (see social media for affirmation) so you’ll stay fresh and fragrant all weekend.
OK, YOU CONVINCED ME – I’M CAMPING – WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?
Primadonna opens for campers at midday on Friday, and to other weekend/day ticket holders at 2pm. The programme kicks off at 4pm and runs through to 4pm on Sunday. We’ve got a packed schedule of fantastic fun lined up for you and can’t wait to see you on site. We will need all campers off site by 5pm the latest on the Sunday.
There will be a range of food on offer throughout the weekend (see below) and there are supermarkets a short walk from the venue for stocking up on last-minute camping items. There is overnight security based in our settling house and this is right on the camping land so nearby for anyone needing assistance overnight.
On the programme are a series of one-on-one Q&As with some of the most exciting writing talents around—whether established or new—and with key figures from publishing, media and entertainment; plus informative, entertaining and challenging panels, as well as the nuts and bolts of getting published or bringing a book to screen. These will be scheduled with plenty of time for audience participation.
We’ll be bringing you the best of local musical talent and big names from further afield plus some music industry-insider “tips for the top”. We also have top DJs playing every night in our disco shed – the best night out in a barn you’ll ever have – and some big names from the world of comedy and cabaret. And there’s more: dance-alongs, poetry performances and more. There’s never a dull moment: there’s never even a feeling-slightly-ready-for-bed moment.
We know you don’t want to just listen, but some of you want to get involved! We’ll be running daily writing challenges and open mic opportunities for everyone, as well as holding workshops where you can learn, share and feed your mind, body and soul. We also have a dedicated wellness area where you can reconnect with yourself by grabbing a massage, some music therapy or other essential indulgences.
Yes, we programme live music, performance and DJs until the wee small hours, so you can dance the night away or sit back and let your sides split (or just hang out in a medieval barn with a drink). You won’t be bored. We promise.
We are what we eat, and all of the food available at Primadonnna has been selected to give you best value for money and the most delicious options including vegan and gluten free. Our festival is known for its delicious food – the venue is the Food Museum, after all, recently named by the Observer as one of “30 things we love in the world of food right now” – made even better by our the perfect setting and our unique mix of mind-expanding discussions and laid-back fun.
Our onsite food vendors are all locally-based, and source their ingredients locally and organically where possible. From curry to noodles to salad to burgers, you’ll be well fed and full of energy for everything the festival has to offer. The museum’s own cafe will be serving food throughout the day too.
Absolutely! Primadonna takes place at the Food Museum, which incorporates 75 acres of glorious Suffolk countryside and 17 buildings – from windmills to medieval barns to tiny chapels – a farm area with rare breeds, growing crops, a river walk and an orchard.
And that’s not all: we’ve programmed tons of things for young people to try, to see and to do: story sessions for budding readers, bread oven baking, meet the animals… you can let your kids run wild, and their imaginations run truly wild. There is always something happening that kids will enjoy… and plenty of stuff that works for old and young alike. Plus, there’s a Fun Palace on the Sunday.
We don’t allow anyone under 16 to be at the festival over the weekend without an adult of 18 or over. Children under 10 years old need to be accompanied on site at all times for their safety.
Well behaved dogs who don’t mind loud music/noise/small children, who can look after themselves, clear up their own mess and who are happy to be kept on leads at all times are permitted provided they have well-behaved owners.
Yes, and you don’t need to worry if you do. Our camping field is very sociable and it will be easy to get stuck in. Even if you’ve never camped before, there will be plenty of people around to help you get set up. Taking our shuttle bus from Stowmarket train station to the festival venue is also a great way to meet other festivalgoers and ease any anxiety about arriving alone.
More than anything, what we will be creating at Primadonna is a community. By the end of the weekend you will have met and made friends with loads of like-minded people. If you’re camping you will have borrowed or lent tent pegs. You will have made each other a cup of tea, or shared your secret stash of donuts. You will certainly have swapped email address, phone numbers and arranged to meet up again. And if you’ve come alone, perhaps you’ve used our yellow wristbands to show others that you’re not in company and have struck up new friendships that will last until next year… and beyond.
We are committed to providing a fully accessible festival for disabled, neurodivergent and Deaf participants – as audience members, speakers and staff. We work with disabled, neuro-divergent and Deaf performers and interpreters to help shape our programme and site plan each year, so that everything we schedule is accessible and inclusive.
There is BSL interpreting throughout the festival. There is a paved path around the site, but there are some areas with no solid pathways or hard ground which may be difficult to navigate. Smoke machines, strobe lights, lasers, fireworks and other effects may be in use at this event. Anyone affected by these should bear this in mind.
Security and stewards (identifiable by their tabards/shirts) are on hand across the festival site. They have been briefed to offer information, help and support, so approach them at any time if you require assistance.
We understand that the festival can be an overwhelming space, and so we offer multiple quiet spaces to decompress in a sensory-friendly environment.
Our mission is to represent the world as it should be – that means we do have to have rules to ensure everyone feels safe. In buying a ticket to the festival, you are agreeing to be bound by them.
No illegal substances, drugs or nitrous oxide or “legal highs” are allowed on site. Anyone disorderly or behaving anti-socially will be ejected.
We will not tolerate any discrimination towards any individual or groups of individuals, irrespective of the background of the individual, be that gender, race, disability, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity.
